Natixis Funds Board of Trustees

Protecting your interests. 

Natixis Funds is governed by a board of trustees, which is responsible for generally overseeing the conduct of fund business and for protecting the interests of shareholders. The trustees meet periodically throughout the year to oversee the funds' activities, review contractual arrangements with companies that provide services to the funds, and review the funds' performance.

Charles Baker Charles D. Baker

Mr. Baker is an executive in residence at General Catalyst Partners. He previously served as president and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Inc. through July 17, 2009. Before joining Harvard Pilgrim in 1999, he was president and CEO of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Prior to joining Harvard Vanguard, Mr. Baker spent eight years in Massachusetts state government, where he served as Secretary of Administration and Finance and Secretary of Health and Human Services. He serves on the Board at Tremont Credit Union in Braintree as well as the Board of the Kenneth Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care. He also advises a number of privately held health care organizations.

Mr. Baker earned a BA in English from Harvard College and a master's degree in management, concentrating in public administration and finance, from Northwestern's Kellogg School.

Robert J. Blanding Robert J. Blanding

Mr. Blanding is chairman of the board, CEO and President for Loomis, Sayles & Company, L.P. He is also a director of Natixis Asset Management Japan Co., Ltd. and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Loomis Sayles Funds.

Mr. Blanding started his career in the investment sector in 1971 and joined Loomis Sayles in 1977. At the start of his career with Loomis Sayles, Mr. Blanding served as a portfolio manager from 1977 through 1991. During this tenure, he was named a managing partner in 1989 and a director in 1990. In 1991, he was made an executive vice president. Mr. Blanding was president and chief operating officer from 1992 to 1995. Prior to joining Loomis Sayles in 1977, he served as a portfolio manager for Stein, Roe & Farnham.

Mr. Blanding earned a BA from Michigan State University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Daniel M. Cain Daniel M. Cain

Mr. Cain is chairman of Cain Brothers & Company, LLC, a healthcare investment bank, and general partner of its private equity affiliates, CB Health Ventures and Health Enterprise Partners. Prior to founding Cain Brothers in 1982, he held various positions at Salomon Brothers, Blythe Eastman Dillon, and Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Cain is a director of Sheridan Healthcare, Inc.. From 1998 to 2010 he served as trustee board president of the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. From 2004 to 2010, he served as director of Brim Healthcare and as a volunteer board member of the American Heart Association.

Mr. Cain earned a BA from Brown University and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business (1972), where he serves on its Board of Overseers.

Kenneth A. Drucker Kenneth A. Drucker

Mr. Drucker retired at year-end 2006 as vice president and treasurer of Sequa Corporation, a multinational industrial. He continued his affiliation with Sequa in 2007 as a consultant for various financial-related services and projects. Prior to joining Sequa in 1987, Mr. Drucker was senior vice president and treasurer of JWT Group, Inc. Prior to that, he was with Stauffer Chemical Company for 12 years, where he held the title of treasurer as well as various other positions in the Treasury department. He was also with CIGNA Corporation and Price Waterhouse & Co.

Mr. Drucker is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Connecticut Society of CPAs. He received his BS in accounting from Long Island University in 1967 and has served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

From 1983 to February 2008, Mr. Drucker served on the Board of Trustees as lead independent trustee and chairman of the Audit Committee of Gateway Fund. From 2004 to 2007, he served on the Board of Directors and as chairman of the Audit Committee of Formica Corporation.

Edward A. Benjamin Edmond (Ted) J. English

Ted English is the CEO of Bob’s Discount Furniture and the former president and CEO of the TJX Companies, Inc. Since joining Bob’s Discount Furniture in 2006, he has more than doubled the store base and nearly tripled sales, placing Bob’s among the top 15 furniture stores in the U.S. During his five-year tenure as CEO of TJX, Mr. English increased revenues by over $6 billion and opened over 900 stores across eight domestic and international divisions.

Mr. English has over 40 years of retailing experience, starting as a stock boy at Filene’s Basement in Boston. Working his way through high school and college, he joined TJX as a buyer in 1983, and held positions of increasing responsibility over the course of his 22 years with the company. He has been recognized by numerous organizations for his work in the corporate arena and the community, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Framingham State College for his immediate and compassionate corporate leadership when seven TJX associates were killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Mr. English was also on the founding board of the national Welfare to Work Program, creating over 30,000 jobs at TJX for former welfare recipients, and was recognized as the Humanitarian of the Year by the Cardinal Cushing Centers for his work with children with special needs.

Ted is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Boston Medical Center, the largest safety net hospital in New England.

Mr. English is a graduate of Northeastern University and currently serves as chairman of the finance committee on the university’s board of trustees.

David Giunta David L. Giunta

David L. Giunta is President and Chief Executive Officer of Natixis Global Asset Management – U.S. Distribution. He reports to John Hailer, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Natixis Global Asset Management – The Americas & Asia.

Mr. Giunta joined the firm in January 2008. He previously worked at Fidelity Investments for 14 years, where he was president of Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, a donor-advised fund and one of the largest public charities in the United States. Mr. Giunta also headed Fidelity Charitable Services, a leading provider of administrative and other services to charitable organizations such as private foundations and donor advised funds, including the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund.

Mr. Giunta joined Fidelity in 1994 as vice president for the Fidelity Personal Investments and Brokerage Group. Later he served as senior vice president in charge of Fidelity’s Eastern Region Investor Centers, director of Fidelity’s Private Wealth Management Products & Services Group and senior vice president of the Fidelity Managed Money Group for Personal Investments.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. Giunta served as an analyst at BankBoston and was assistant vice president of new product development for Putnam Investments.

Mr. Giunta received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Bentley College in 1987 and an MBA from Boston College in 1991. He also is a CPA.

John T. Hailer John T. Hailer

Mr. Hailer, who heads up Natixis Global Asset Management in The Americas and Asia, is a trustee for the Natixis Funds. Mr. Hailer started his career with the firm in 1998 as executive vice president and managing director.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hailer was with Fidelity Investments Institutional Services Company (FIIS), most recently as senior vice president – international, responsible for new business development in North America and Latin America. Before joining Fidelity, he was senior vice president and director of retail business development for Putnam Investments. Mr. Hailer is chairman of the board of directors for the Home for Little Wanderers, which was founded in 1799 and is the oldest continuous children's charity in the United States.

Mr. Hailer received a BA from Beloit College, where he currently serves on the board of trustees.

Wendell J. Knox Wendell J. Knox

Mr. Knox is a director of Abt Associates, Inc., a research and consulting company. He joined Abt Associates in 1969. Mr. Knox has held various corporate management positions throughout his tenure with the firm, most notably serving as president and CEO from 1992 through September 30, 2009.

Mr. Knox is active in civic affairs, including past or present board memberships with Brigham and Women's Hospital, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Bank, Partnership, Inc., Efficacy Institute, Biomedical Sciences Career Program, National Association of Corporate Directors – NE, National Conference for Community and Justice, Hanover Insurance Group, Eastern Enterprises, Dimock Community Foundation, Edvestors, Inc. and Boston Rising.

Mr. Knox earned a BA in social relations from Harvard University. In addition, he completed the Special Program in Urban Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Marty Meehan

Marty Meehan is the second chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the 14th leader of the institution, which was founded in the 1890’s. He also is a faculty member of the University’s political science department. Since Mr. Meehan assumed the chancellorship in 2007, his inclusive leadership style has helped transform UMass Lowell from a university that was in danger of fiscal failure to one that has achieved new success by every important measure of higher education. Specifically, Mr. Meehan has propelled the University forward in academics, research, fundraising, globalization, recruitment, retention, diversity, campus life, engagement with the community, and the condition and range of facilities.

Prior to serving as Chancellor of UMass Lowell, Mr. Meehan represented the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2007, where he was a member of the House Armed Services and Judiciary committees.

He was the First Assistant District Attorney of Middlesex County and the Massachusetts Deputy Secretary of State for Securities and Corporations. Also, in the early 1980’s, Mr. Meehan was an adjunct faculty member in political science at UMass Lowell.

Mr. Meehan is on the board of directors at Lowell Cooperative Bank and Lowell General Hospital. Previously, he served on the board of directors of Qteros (formerly SunEthanol) and D’Youville Foundation and was a member of the board of trustees of Suffolk University. He is the author of many publications and the recipient of numerous awards.

Mr. Meehan holds a Bachelor of Science, cum laude in secondary education and political science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. He holds honorary degrees from Suffolk University, Green Mountain College in Vermont and Shenkar College of Engineering & Design in Israel.

Sandra O. Moose Sandra O. Moose

Dr. Moose is a senior advisor of The Boston Consulting Group. She retired from The Boston Consulting Group at the end of 2003 after a career that spanned 35 years. She held the position of senior vice president and director of the firm. Previously she was a managing partner of the New York office (for over 10 years) and chair of the east coast region. Her experience before 1968 was with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and as a member of the faculty of Harvard University.

Dr. Moose is currently president of Strategic Advisory Services and a director of Verizon Communications, the AES Corporation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She is an Honorary Director on the board of the Boston Public Library Foundation as well as chairman of the Harvard Graduate School Council. She is president of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and is a director or trustee of other charitable organizations, including the Huntington Theatre and the Museum of Science. She was formerly a trustee of Hampshire College and Wheaton College and a director of the Theatre Development Fund. She is also a member of the Committee of 200, a nationwide organization of women business leaders, and the Massachusetts Women's Forum. Dr. Moose was the 1999 recipient of the American Economic Association's Carolyn Shaw Bell award, which is given annually to an individual who has furthered the status of women in the economics profession. She also received the Outstanding Corporate Director of the Year Award in 2004.

Dr. Moose received her BA summa cum laude in economics from Wheaton College where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. She also earned a Ph.D and MA in economics from Harvard University and has studied at the University of Vienna.

Erik R. Sirri Erik R. Sirri

Mr. Sirri is a professor of finance at Babson College. His research interests include the interaction of securities law and finance, securities market structure, and investment management. He was the director of the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2006 to 2009, where he was responsible for matters relating to the regulation of stock and option exchanges, national securities associations, brokers, dealers, clearing agencies, transfer agents, and credit rating agencies. He also served as the SEC’s chief economist from 1996 to 1999 and was an assistant professor of finance at the Harvard Business School from 1989 to 1995.

He has consulted for securities firms, stock exchanges, mutual fund companies, issuers and information vendors on a variety of regulatory and business matters. His published writings appear in academic journals, practitioner journals and books.

Mr. Sirri received a BS in astronomy from the California Institute of Technology, an MBA from the University of California, Irvine, and a PhD in finance from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Peter J. Smail Peter J. Smail

Mr. Smail was a financial services senior executive with Fidelity Investments through June 2008. He enjoyed a 20-year career launching and building businesses for Fidelity Investments, including its stand-alone institutional investment management arm and 401(k) business. He joined Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services Company in 1987, and became its president in 1996. Five years later he was selected as president of Fidelity's total employee benefits outsourcing business, and in 2005 was chosen as president and CEO to launch and lead Pyramis Global Advisors, a new Fidelity investment management subsidiary serving institutional investors.

Prior to 1987, Mr. Smail held executive positions at BayBanks and New England Mutual Life Insurance Company. He is currently retired and serving as the trustee of the Employee Benefit Research Institute. He also served on the board of directors of Fidelity Management Trust Company, Fidelity Investments-Canada and Pyramis Global Advisors.

Mr. Smail earned a BS, with honors, in business management from Northeastern University.

Cynthia L. Walker Cynthia L. Walker

Ms. Walker serves as Deputy Dean for Finance & Administration at the Yale University School of Medicine. She is responsible for all financial, budgetary, human resource, capital planning and other administrative support for the educational, research and clinical care missions of the school. She collaborates with academic leadership of the school and the university in setting priorities and directing resources. Prior to her current position at Yale, Ms. Walker was at Harvard Medical School for 24 years serving as Executive Dean for Administration and earlier as Dean for Finance/CFO. She began her professional career with Coopers & Lybrand where she managed numerous university and non-profit engagements.

Ms. Walker's undergraduate degree is from Yale in Ancient Greek. She also holds an MBA and is a CPA.
